PRE-MORNING - Celtic settlement & Schmidtburg castle

From the parking lot 'Schninderhannestränke' you start on the Hahnenbachtaltour. After a few kilometers along beautiful forest paths you reach the Celtic settlement 'Altenburg'. Here you can immerse yourself in life as it was lived over 2000 years ago and marvel at the innovations that already existed at that time.

Continue along the water adventure trail towards Schmidtburg Castle. Our namesake is one of the largest castle complexes in the region. The former Schenken zu Schmidtburg family used it as a refuge from the Hungarians in 926. Today it is a monument to local history and attracts visitors and scouts from near and far to the Hunsrück.

MIDDAY - Small lunch snack

At Forrellenhof, it's worth stopping for a snack at lunchtime. Here you can sit in the sunshine right next to the forrellen ponds and enjoy homemade forrellen butter, fresh forrellen 'Müllerinnen Art' and lots of delicious snacks.

AFTERNOON - Hike

Now it's back to the starting point via a gentle climb. After your hiking experience, you might fancy a scoop of ice cream from the German champion at the Eiscafé Venezia in Kirn or you can take a leisurely stroll back to Weiler via the Burgen and Schieferstrasse.
